My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Monte Cristo. The employees were super nice and helpful. The rooms are spacious and well-decorated. The beds are comfy. The toilet in our room had a heated seat, which was a pleasant surprise! We enjoyed the breakfast that was provided. When we come back to San Francisco, we'll be sure to stay here.

So glad we found this wonderful B&B. It will now be our place to stay when we visit SF. Warm, welcoming, beautiful and well kept up historic building in a quiet neighborhood. We didn't want for anything. Also found parking on a nearby residential street.

We stayed here for 3 nights and it was perfect! It is very quaint and feels soo homey. The breakfast was delicious and all the little treats they put out during the day were such a fun addition! The location was also a plus as it was so easy to get pretty much everywhere. I would absolutely stay again!

There are a few things that I noticed that I was a little surprised by, the size of our room was smaller than your typical hotel room but was not an issue, there is a full length mirror in the main hallways but we didn’t have one in our room as well as no microwave/fridge. None of these had a major impact on our stay, but just a few things to note.

Overall we had a fantastic time at The Monte Cristo and can’t wait to come back!

Amazing. This was sooooo much better than a hotel. They are kind, super friendly and make you feel welcomed as soon as you walk in the door. We checked in early and there was no fuss and no guilt just awesomeness. The room was clean, bed was comfy, breakfast was great and the bathroom was glorious. I would recommend 100%. Will stay here again.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights (Fri-Mon). Prior to choosing this, I researched quite a bit and glad that we stayed here. The location is quiet and safe. What I was really worried about was parking since we rented a car but we had no problem finding one across/diagonal to MC. |We don’t usually stay at a B&B place but it was different and read good reviews. Btw, We booked a junior suite and so glad we did! Plenty of space! ||Pros: |Breakfast to order every morning; Snacks/coffee available throughout the day.|Quiet- did not hear any neighbors|Host (Jack) was friendly |Small lobby but with tables and chairs and TV|Renovated bathroom, heated and with bidet (rainshower)|Comfortable bed |Close to major attractions |Bath is clean and renovated||Cons: very close to fire station so heard the sirens at night but not MC fault! |I would stay here again and would highly recommend it to others

Magical place. Old style B&B, but the room was like new antique. Breakfast was perfect. Now one of my favorite places!

This Bed and Breakfast is what every other Bed and Breakfast in the world aspires to be. Every detail is perfect. The room is clean, quiet, with everything you need for comfort. The breakfast is impeccable, delicious, fresh with tasty coffee. The people who take care of this place are solid and take pride in being an integral part of the SF service industry. Thanks Monte Cristo, I'll be coming back again and again.

I've stayed in several San Francisco B&Bs over the years, and they all have their pros and cons. As that's the case, maybe I'll just try to mention a few things that stand out for me with this one. Great owners, great service. Comfortable environment but not overkill. A smaller room might be, well, small but still comfortable. Other customers there usually seem pretty happy and friendly, which might sound like an odd thing to say, but that's just not always the case everywhere you go, and I don't take it for granted. The one thing for me that makes this a total steal is the location. I have a hard time imagining a better location in the entire city! It's located within a reasonable distance via walking (depending on the variables) or public transportation of most anyplace an average visitor might want to go. It's near UCSF, not far from the Haight and Golden Gate Park, similarly not far from the Castro, and it takes little effort to get down to the business district, North Beach, the wharves, Chinatown and so on. I've stayed in many locations around that city, and I don't think I've ever found one more conveniently located. And the rates are very reasonable for the city. Definitely recommended, especially for those planning to do and see a lot while in town.
