Trasierra has become famous for being a chill and stylish “home from home” rather than a conventional|hotel. It has just reopened with a slightly different formula to before. You can rent the entire finca for a family reunion or purpose-driven activity (eg writing, art, cooking, yoga or riding). Or you can take a|room, a cottage or a house. The emphasis is now less on providing a full-service boutique hotel experience (eg with endless a la carte meals) and more on tailoring the offer to your personal needs. You may prefer to self-cater or to go out for some meals. With this in mind, the same family team have taken over the management of the Casino de Cazalla restaurant in the nearby town, where they offer both lunch and dinner. But what gives Trasierra its special flavour is that it is also a much-loved family home.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 day stay (part of a Writers’ Workshop). This is not a “hotel”, but rather a beautifully restored estate in the Andalusian countryside. A sizable salt water swimming pool and lounge area leads to an outside dining area where candlelit group dinners can be enjoyed. The reality is even better than the website photos. There are interesting historical sites and wineries nearby for excursions. The owner, Charlotte, is a wonderful and interesting host.

Probably the most perfect place I've ever visited. Better than the best hotel in the world, Transierra is like having a home in the Spanish countryside where you can enjoy a tranquil, stylishly elegant holiday while not having to lift a finger. From breakfast, to lunch, to afternoon tea and to candlelit dinners, food magically appears in wonderful settings around the estate. Charlotte and her friendly staff have anticipated every whim you may have: charming rooms, wonderfully comfortable beds with starched white linen. The estate is laid out with gardens and terraces and oodles of places to sit, relax, read, swim, or do nothing. You feel like a valued guest in this stylish home.

Arriving at Seville airport (via the very convenient EasyJet) my girlfriend and I were scooped up by a driver and whisked on our way toward Trasierra. Driving through the low grounds and quaint towns we steadily climbed into the hillsides overlooking Seville. An hour later, flanked by olive groves we turned off the road and in to the Trasierra estate. Greeted by Charlotte and her sweet grandchildren we were led through a small portal in the huge front gates and into a courtyard that enveloped us in Trasierra's calming and laid back atmosphere. Shown to our room by Alex we opened the door to our own little piece of heaven. Cool terracotta tiles lined the floor adding colour to the chic white walls. Beautiful antique furniture furnished the room, the center-piece a huge double bed that dwarfed my girlfriend and I. Attached to the room was a simple but perfect bathroom with his and hers sinks and a bathtub overlooked by a porthole window giving views above the rooftops and into the hills surrounding us. The windows in the main room consisted of a romeo and juliet balcony and our own wonderful terrace complete with a seating area built into the wall and a small table and chair set.||||The nicest thing about Trasierra is that it is a hotel unlike any other. Picture a trip to stay with old family friends who have a room free in their Spanish haven. Do not expect being waited on hand and foot, instead be safe in the knowledge that as soon as you want someone they will be there to help, bending over backwards to ensure your stay is a perfect as possible, again adding to the feeling you are in someones home, which indeed you are, Charlotte having raised her family there. This atmosphere pervades to the other guests who all seem to come together to share lunch, chat at the honesty bar and relax by the pool, much like houseguests getting to know each other.||||I will only say little of the food. It is delicious, unscripted and again, delicious. Whatever you do make sure you try their gazpacho!!||||Again; if you like a hotel where there is someone to stand ready over your shoulder at all hours, running and fetching for you, this is not for you. If you want a place that is relaxed, beautiful, chic, filled with interesting people, in a stunning landscape, with delicious food, comfy beds and a true escape from the world for a while then this is for you.||||To Charlotte, George, Alex and all your other wonderful staff seldom seen, THANK YOU for a perfect five days. Due to your help my soon to be wife and I cannot wait to see you next year.

Trashier ran is located outside the town of Cazalla, 5 minutes drive from the centre. The rooms are spacious, very clean and an excellent bathroom. Wifi is available in each room.||The service is very good and the food is of a very high standard and quality. Any issues or problems are resolved without fuss. I fully recommend trasierra for an special occasion such as a wedding venue.

Having been given a very positive build up, Trasierra sadly proved to be quite a disappointment apart from the staff who were efficient, charming, friendly and hard working: particularly George the son of the owner and the girl who inter alia managed the small shop.||The mostly walled property consists of a series of converted farm buildings, which have a certain quaint charm, approached through a door set in a high, massive solid wood gate leading into a courtyard. Beyond is what may have once been a barn, now a baronial style drawing room area which had the distinct advantage of being cool in the heatwave we experienced while we were there. Beyond that is a dining area where there is an adequately stocked bar, with tapas and lunch available nearby.||Outside and adjacent is a medium sized swimming pool with space for sun loungers on which to soak up the rays - the only option as there is no shade: badly needed when it's hot. It does tend to be hot in this part of the world come summer. There are places to escape the sun below the pool but the facility to stretch out is limited to one partly shaded area although the mattresses are rather tired.||Bedrooms are dotted round the various buildings. We had booked best available and were allocated the "Studio", which has a high ceiling but no ceiling fan let alone aircon so could be stuffy. The largish double bed was quite comfortable and came equipped with a fur rug in addition to a duvet and sheets, despite the day time temperature being in the mid-thirties and the nights not much cooler. There was an antique wardrobe and a rickety chest of drawers, which together with one arm chair and a writing table with chair made up the room's furnishings. The ensuite bathroom had no ceiling so was in effect part of the bedroom. The shower was in the bath, lurking behind a heavy shower curtain, and while the water pressure was fine, attention had to be applied to maintaining balance on the slippy-slidey floor of the bath. ||Meals are taken at various locations around the premises. Breakfast is self-service for the most part: plenty of cereals, yogurts and some fruit. Bacon and eggs are brought to your table but it is important to tell the staff to wait otherwise you end up with everything at once. Be careful not to lean on the tables as the tops merely rest on an unsecured base. The seats (folding wooden chairs) are rock hard and badly need cushions to be remotely comfortable.||Tapas is served before lunch and dinner in the bar area and tended to consist of olives, crisps, slices of salami and quail eggs. Not much variation. House wine is included with lunch and dinner but any drinks taken before and/or afterwards should be recorded in an "honesty sheet" at the bar. Lunch usually includes some form of cold soup, sliced meats, salads and potatoes. Dinner is a more formal affair and consists of three (fixed) courses - usually a salad starter, meat or fish and vegetables followed b a cold pudding. Again house wines included. The food was generally OK but nothing inspiring. Indeed my barbecued lamb on our last night was so tough I lost the will even to try and cut it let alone eat it.||Apart from sleeping, eating and dunking in the pool there is a tennis court and some very agreeable walks in the woods around Trasierra. If you are driving be sure to ask for written instructions. There are no signs on the main road and there is a village called Trasierra about 20km away just to confuse the uninitiated.||I realise this critique is hardly complimentary and appears to go against the grain of what other guests have found. In mitigation it must be said that the rest of my party enjoyed themselves as indeed did I although for what it is Trasierra is no bang for you buck.

Doesn't get any better than Trasierra. Most relaxing holiday you can go on, the people are wonderful and the surroundings are idyllic. The food is excellent, especially lunch, where they put on very fresh Spanish food.||||There is a help-yourself honesty bar with great rosé and before lunch and dinner they bring out olives and almonds and other small tapas-like snacks.

We travelled here as a family to celebrate my Mum's 80th. The setting is a delight; peacefully located up in the hills an hour or so north of Seville, and when you walk through the gates you'll think you have found paradise - beautiful flowers, tinkling water and a rustic charm which has been painstakingly created over many decades. ||||Add to that a super team run by an ex Four Seasons manager and his partner who are there when you need them (and not when you don't!) and the result is fantastic. It's like being at home because there is a free pour bar (you keep a note of how much you've drunk) and no menus - you eat what you're given (and it is very good food!)... for us this worked fine, though I accept not everyone will like the lack of choice. ||||We all had a wonderful time, and will be back.
